This trip has taken 6 years to plan: in 2018, we decided to visit Nova Scotia, the bay of Fundy, etc. But then we ended up touring NewFoundland instead, because we are bad at geography. (Long story short: I said “let’s go to Nova Scotia”. Joe said “ why don’t we just add NewFoundland too, because you always wanted to see St Pierre et Miquelon as well as puffins”. I said. “Good idea”. And then looked at a map and realized that they are in fact quite far from each other - it’s a 16 hour drive between Halifax and St John, including an 8 hours ferry. But by then i had gotten exited about Puffins and that odd bit of France that is St Pierre, so off to New Foundland we went - you can check the blog, it was fun)
But that means that we still had not seen Nova Scotia, the bay of Fundy, Prince Edward’s Island or Cap Breton. So that’s what we are doing now.
It was a lovely day to fly out of LGA to Halifax (a direct fight- what a treat!!!), offering beautiful views of the city, the Tappan Zee bridge and the Hudson (and Croton Point in the back),
and then of the valleys of Nova Scotia.
It’s a short flight so there was time to enjoy the weather and take a stroll on the water front. We won’t have time to see much more of Halifax until we get back at the end of the trip - hoping to get to the citadel and other city sights on our last day here. But for today, the beautiful boardwalk, with it’s cute boutiques and food shacks, was great!
Walking back through town, I got a glimpse of the citadel, which we will hopefully visit on our last day, as well as admire some of the older houses
One thing I love about Canada, is how wonderfully diverse it is: here is a really unusual example of it- a Chinese Halal restaurant!
We did not eat there, in part because this area is so famous for its sea food that I decided to only have that for this entire trip. So started with a lobster/Shrimp roll. It was good!
